I’m opening this post with a confession… When I had my first son something happened inside, like a lightning bolt striking out my professional personality. I had started my freelance business a year before giving birth with the plan that it would be a great way to earn a living, while working it around my little one. But, when it came time to managing the work and clients, I couldn’t figure it out. I couldn’t find that zing that energised me to write. Instead it felt heavy and hard…

I remember talking to someone who also worked for herself but in a totally different industry and who had older kids. She nodded along as I told her how I felt and then she said she got it, that she could see I needed to find work that made me feel alive and therefore, made sense when I devoted time to it, away from my son.

Long story short and another baby later, I found my passion for writing again, particularly in the social media space and in fiction writing (you can read about how I came to be so passionate about fiction writing here). And I’ve been working on that for two or so years now…

Recently I’ve been ramping up the ‘business’ side of things and I joined Marie Forleo’s infamous B-School. And yes, I’ve been juggling that right now, with the Corona Virus Crisis and homeschooling a six-year-old, while keeping my three-year-old out of daycare. Also, my husband’s a doctor who works in an airway specialty (yes, breathing and the mouth where germs are coughed out of!) so he’s worked long days and we’ve been extra anxious about possible exposure.

HOWEVER, do you know what? I’ve had a breakthrough during the course, particularly around honing in on my skills and figuring out how I want to share it with the world… I have found that energising passion again!

I love writing and I have some serious PR skills. Recently I’ve been brainstorming with some amazing women who work in various industries from real estate, to healthcare and even energy drinks! And I love it! I love helping them and coming up with ways they can enhance their communication.

NOW I WANT TO HELP YOU!

The devastating ripple effects of Covid-19 are being seen everywhere. It breaks my heart to hear of businesses struggling, particularly sole operators who put their heart and soul into all they do. A lovely friend of mine told me she just doesn’t know how to keep posting and promoting her business when so many people are hurting and afraid. I get it.

And so that’s how my ‘aha’ moment came to be. I want to help people like her and others who just aren’t sure how to put the right words out into the world now or any other time.

So, while I will definitely keep writing fiction, I’d also like to expand on what I do and help others with their own writing and communication.

In particular, I want to enhance my blog with tips, advice and strategies on how to communicate successfully through social media and websites, and by approaching mainstream media. I’ve also whipped up a newsletter so I can reach anyone who doesn’t want to miss what I have to share (sign up below).

I’m a HUGE believer in the power of STORYTELLING. I know that if you can turn your facts, products or services into a story then magic can happen.

When we engage through storytelling:

  • People listen.
  • People emotionally understand.
  • People invest their time (and money) into brands, products and services.

So, no matter who you are or what your business is — and yes fellow creatives, we may be producing artwork of some kind, but we also need to be able to sell our brand and end product —  then I want you to subscribe to my newsletter, follow me on social media and join in the conversation about the very handy and powerful tool of storytelling.

This is just the beginning of what I hope will be an awesome experience of connecting with you and pushing yourself in the consumer world!
